Bill Cassell

Mr. William Cassell has been an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at CU since 2009. He has 27 years in law enforcement prior to coming to CU. Mr. Cassell began his law enforcement career with the United States Army Military Police Corps serving for 10 years in patrol, investigations and leadership. He became an officer, and soon after, a detective for Campbellsville (KY) Police Department, later being promoted to detective sergeant, patrol sergeant, and assistant chief. He was appointed chief of police for Lancaster (KY) Police Department and later returned to the Campbellsville Police (KY) Department as chief of police. Upon retirement he accepted a position with the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training as an instructor at the Kentucky School of Strategic Leadership and was later promoted to the In-service Training Branch Manager. Mr. Cassell earned a BS in Criminal Justice from Campbellsville University, a MS in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University, and am ABD with Capella University’s Public Safty PhD program. Mr. Cassell has earned numerous state and national certifications as law enforcement instructor in leadership, management, ethics, investigations, and patrol subjects. His research interests are in the areas of law enforcement gender studies, community policing, and criminal justice leadership.
